The National Center for Incident Readiness and Strategy for Cybersecurity (NISC) is the primary organization in the Japanese Central Government responsible for creating the national cybersecurity strategy. It also assists all other Central Government agencies in devising and executing cybersecurity policies and measures. Recently, NISC released its National Strategy for Cyber Security 2019, which emphasizes the critical requirement to enhance cybersecurity measures throughout Japanese society and in all areas of technological advancement.
The collaboration between Japan and the United States in the domains of cloud, cyber-physical systems, and network security has had a positive impact on market access. The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has an ongoing dialogue with Japan's METI and Information Technology Protection Agency (IPA). The sixth annual U.S.-Japanese Cyber-Security Dialogue conference took place in Washington, D.C. in July 2018. The purpose of this dialogue is to exchange cyber-security information, align international policies, compare national strategies, cooperate on planning efforts to protect critical infrastructure and discuss cooperation in the areas of cyber-security and national defence.
According to various market research reports, the cyber security market in Japan is expected to experience a significant and rapid growth in sales. In 2018, the International Data Corporation (IDC) Japan predicted that the domestic information security market would increase from $2.7 billion in 2017 to an estimated $3.3 billion by 2022, with $2.2 billion for security-related software and $0.6 million for hardware. The NPO Japan Network Security Association also reported that the Japanese information security market was worth $9.8 billion in 2017 and is expected to reach $10.2 billion in 2018, with a further increase to $10.7 billion in the same year.
